Subject: Disable Amp on Kmotioncnc stop
I get a bit of drift on my analog machine if I disable an axis since the amp still remains on as talked about previously.

I solved this in my Init.c with a watchdog that turns off the amp when the hardware estop is pressed. I'll have to add something for tripping a limit as well, which i think i can manage OK.

I don't understand how I can turn off the amp when I hit the stop button in Kmotion cnc, though. It disables the axis', then they begin their drift since the amp is still on.

Do i change the watchdog to check if the axis' are enabled or not?

Can someone shed some light on that, please?

Thanks,

Mike

You can adjust the zero offset on your amp, as well. I had to do that on one of my 4 axes.

I actually did that, but it did not remain perfectly still. It doesn't move much, but I don't want it to move at all. I'm pretty sure I worked it out.....I'll know for sure tomorrow.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike,

As you alluded to you can monitor the Axis Enables and if any become disabled then disable the amplifiers.

Hello, Tom

So I added an enable watchdog at the end of my program. It seems to function as it should when I manually disable an axis in the axis screen. It does not work in Kmotion cnc when I hit the stop button, though. The if seems to work, as my amp and hydraulic are turned on when I hit INIT.....but it doesn't make it to the else in Kmotion cnc.

I am attaching my Init.c here http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/DynoMotion/files/michaelthomas/

I cannot seem to figure out what the blue axis dro's signify, and wonder if it somehow related.

I thought the dro's would turn green, but they never do.

Mike

Hi Mike,

Sorry I hadn't realized that STOP in KMotionCNC kills all User Threads and then disables all the Axes.  So your C program never has a chance to disable the amplifiers before it is killed.

Here is a patched version that only kills all other Threads except #1.

Copy it to the C:\KMotion429\KMotion\Release directory and see if it solves your problem.

You must run your Init.c and watchdog program in Thread #1 for it to continue to run after an EStop.

Regards
TK

Thanks Tom,

I will try that in the morning.

I was certain I had done something dumb in the c program, but I could not figure it out....lol.

Is there a more conventional way to do what I am trying to do?

Oh, and what does a blue colored dro mean?

Hi Mike,

No I can't think of a better way.

The Blue DROs indicate you have the option set to display Measured Encoder Position rather than Commanded Theoretical Position.
